Fortaleza real felipe, Callao

(4.3/5 based on 180+ reviews on the web)
Completed in 1774 to protect Lima against pirates, Fortaleza real felipe gallantly continues to defend the main Peruvian port. The fortress played a key role in a major naval battle between the Spanish fleet fighting to take back its colonial possessions and Peruvian land batteries. Today, the fortress is home to the Peruvian Army Museum, where you can see uniforms, weapons, and other military paraphernalia. • Finally visited after six years living in Peru. We took the Spanish tour which was no problem for us but as we are tour operators ourselves, we kept considering how this would have been for a non-Span...  more »
  • The fortress of Real Felipe, is a historical place that if you go to Lima and specifically the port of Callao, you must visit. its architecture, its passages, their dungeons, them wineries where is kept the gold that then is carried to Spain, etc. There are parts histpricas very interesting as the first canon that arrived to the Peru brought by Francisco Pizarro. They will also have a very good panoramic view of the port of Callao, which is the first port in South America. It is important to visit him with a hat because much of the route is in the sunshine by the outdoor. It has parking on the outside so you can go by car. And if it causes you to continue exploring the Naval Museum and the Museum Abtao (where you can enter a submarine) you have a few blocks from the entrance of the fortress.

  • While I'm not big on colonialism and such, Peru is full of the meeting between colonial and native. It's very nice to visit.  more »
  • Hermoso lugar
  • Nice colonial building located just located in an awful, unsafe, dirty neighborhood.
  • It's a must for local tourists
