Windows of Otuzco, Cajamarca
(4.3/5 based on 260+ reviews on the web)
See the atmospheric carved structure of Windows of Otuzco, an ancient necropolis built and used by the people of Cajamarca. The exact date when the site was established is unknown, though some ceramics found here have been dated back to 1400 BC, with the site currently thought to have been in use for around 2000 years. The vast funerary site features neatly carved windows, cut into the volcanic rock of the hill that housed the dead. Architecturally impressive, and somewhat mystical, the site raises many questions about the Cajamarca culture. • The ventanillas de Otuzco is a funerary complex built in volcanic rock with a chronological occupation ranging from 1130 BC during the formative period for the Cajamarca (Pre-Inca) culture. A special place to learn about the ancient inhabitants of South America.
