Ransom Room, Cajamarca

3.4
Visit Ransom Room to see the room in which the Incan Emperor Atahualpa was imprisoned in the 16th century. In the waning days of the Incan Empire, the emperor was captured by Spanish conquistadores led by Francisco Pizarro. While in captivity, Atahualpa offered to pay his ransom by filling the room he was held in with gold, and the two adjacent rooms with silver. Ultimately the Spanish accepted the ransom, but executed the emperor anyway. Hire a guide for the full story of the capture and ransom, as well as interesting facts about the room itself. • By what it means for our culture. The place is not very big and with many concurrency can be messy. They are the remains of what at that time was a resting place for the inca. Part of the city tour or you can visit him regardless. It is half a block from the plaza de armas. Frente a la Iglesia San Francisco. Recommended.

  • It is located one block from the Plaza de Armas. It must be paid 5 Suns entry and only to see the room in which the Inca Atahualpa offered gold and silver for their freedom. It is worth to see it since it is a part of the history of the Peru.

  • Good to see. Could do with more commentary about the place.
  • Small yet interesting piece of local history
  • Guides are only in Spanish, pretty knowledgeable. Make sure you ask about the unofficial history too. Official one was written by Spanish.
