Visit Ransom Room to see the room in which the Incan Emperor Atahualpa was imprisoned in the 16th century. In the waning days of the Incan Empire, the emperor was captured by Spanish conquistadores led by Francisco Pizarro. While in captivity, Atahualpa offered to pay his ransom by filling the room he was held in with gold, and the two adjacent rooms with silver. Ultimately the Spanish accepted the ransom, but executed the emperor anyway. Hire a guide for the full story of the capture and ransom, as well as interesting facts about the room itself. • Good to see. Could do with more commentary about the place.
  • Small yet interesting piece of local history
  • Guides are only in Spanish, pretty knowledgeable. Make sure you ask about the unofficial history too. Official one was written by Spanish.
  • ok
  • Amazing place, a bit worn out by age, but has much story to tell.
