Plaza de Armas de Cajamarca, Cajamarca

4.5
Visit the spacious Plaza de Armas de Cajamarca, the city's main meeting point and notable place in Peru's history. It was on this square that the Spaniards executed Atahualpa, the last Incan emperor, whose death ultimately led to the dissolution and fall of the Incan empire. Roaming the square, you can admire many important buildings, including a cathedral and picturesque colonial-era houses. Rest while listening to the calming sounds of the fountain, or enjoy the view of surrounding mountains from a cafe. • One of the most beautiful main squares of Peru, entirely made of stone, surrounded by the Cathedral and San Francisco church. A place according to one of the most important cities of the Inca period.
  • One if the better, bigger, more open, and nicer plazas in Peru.
  • Amazing place, its 2-chatedral and unique design makes this place enchanting.
  • Good vibes in this places, the sky its so beautifull and around this place are many restaurants .
  • Cajamarca's Plaza de Armas is its central square, comprising paths and grassed areas (but they don't want you to walk on the grass). There are quite a few park benches, and people also it on some of the low walls. Surrounding the plaza are some grand old churches, and other interesting and historic buildings. From here it's a short walk to the historic Belén area or up to the lookout at Cerro Santa Apolonia. There are lots of eating places nearby, ranging from "posh and excellent" (such as the Costa Del Sol Restaurant) to "basic but super-cheap" (places full of locals having fixed-menu meals)
