Iglesia Belén, Cajamarca

4.4
#8 of 13 in Sightseeing in Cajamarca
Church Tourist Spot
Visit one of the city's architectural centerpieces at Iglesia Belén, whose colonial Baroque details include a flat facade, single nave, and columns in lieu of any towers. Built in the 18th century, the church features an edifice adorned with hand-carved hewn stone designs and arabesque lines, reminiscent of Moorish decor. Inside, light pours through stained-glass windows onto the gold-coated altar and paintings of religious scenes. To learn the full history, visit with a local guide or pick up an informative brochure in advance. • Bethlehem Church, is located between Bethlehem and Junín shreds, its construction was carried out based on stone carved by hand, during the 18th century.  It has a single nave, it is the most representative of the colonial Baroque art Church and the most beautiful architectural sample of the city. u facade has no towers but this adorned with columns and arabesques of singular beauty and complexity. The interior is illuminated by the light that enters through stained-glass windows of a dome of unmatched perfection that has, in addition, paintings of religious scenes and characters. The main Altar is covered with gold leaf, the pulpit is wonderfully carved wood and all the altarpieces and altars, have similar style of manufacturing.
