Cumbemayo, Cajamarca

Categories: Ruins, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.8/5 based on 480+ reviews on the web
Take a tour of the ruins of Cumbemayo, a canal system that represents one of the oldest man-made structures in South America. Built by a pre-Incan nation sometime around 1500 BCE, the canals probably served to regulate water flow. See the aqueduct built from volcanic stone, hike along caves and interesting rock formations, and view the "Stone Monks"--large volcanic pillars weathered to peculiar shapes. On some of the rocks and structures, ancient petroglyphs provide insight into the advanced society that once inhabited the area. • One of the biggest attractions not far from Cajamarca, bring enough for a walk and know all the archaeological zone. You can pass through one narrow cave not more than 30 meters which is only a story throughout the tour. Unfortunately there are many children asking for money and people willing to give. The cost of the tour was 20 soles, we left the square at 9:30 and approximately will return at 2 pm.

  • This place is beautiful, not for something is the second marvel of the Peru. To get here is better take a tour that is super cheap. It has all the necessary services and is in good condition (even if people are not careful in not dirty). The views from different parts is great, the rock formations are amazing. The adventurous side is when you walk through the tunnel at the beginning but isn't very difficult. Also find a preinca channel that leaves you amazed. Luckily there was a small storm that afternoon but it was part of that wonderful experience :)
