Sangalle, Cabanaconde

3.8
#3 of 12 in Sightseeing in Colca Canyon
Landmark Tourist Spot
Trek to what is rumored to be the world’s deepest canyon at Sangalle. You'll descend to depths of around 1200 m (3937 ft) in order to reach the canyon, so the challenge is no walk in the park; come equipped with plenty of water and, most importantly, sturdy shoes. Once you've reached your destination, however, the rewards make your efforts worthwhile. Admire the tall, verdant trees and flowers surrounding the azure natural pool at the bottom. • Mandatory step before the ascent to Cabanaconde, it is regrettable to distort the décor at this point. The place is nice as long as you do not stay there long. DO NOT TAKE BY MULE BACK.

  • We experienced this as part of an independent 3 day/2 night trek. We stayed at the Palmeras. Lots of loud young people. At dinner time not enough seating for all. We had to get our own food because we...  more »
  • If you are traveling far from home to find the same atmosphere, if you love find you in the middle of hundreds of tourists from Europe for the most part, then this place is for you. The oasis is the major attraction proposed in Arequipa. A few hours of an easy to access, one hour walk to enjoy one of the three pools, before the sunset (16 h), and an evening to get very cold... Everything is overpriced, 10 S the water bottle. Seen mules worth walking up and down the 1200 m of elevation up to Cabanaconde, it's not cheap... But looking around, we see that everything is fake. This oasis at the bottom of the canyon has lost its authenticity. Barely hidden pipes down to the River, which is inaccessible for tourists. The old dilapidated pools rotting under the vegetation. The ruins are spread around the site. In fact everything is done to create the dream of a paradise lost at the end of the world. But it's all fake. Made to attract the tourist. And it works. He must see it to believe...

  • The sangalle is a similar place even oasis, in the middle of the Canyon, has a few cabins rustic but cosy, in addition to don different really fresh water pools, crossing to reach this wonderful place is from the village called Cabanaconde, the route is usually walk down has a duration of 2:30 hours and rise about 3 to 4 hours average. Take water, to not become dehydrated and repellent for mosquitoes, the clothes do not worry as this place is warm.
