Complejo Arqueologico Wari, Ayacucho
(4/5 based on 120+ reviews on the web)
Discover the ancient capital city of Wari with a visit to Complejo Arqueologico Wari, all that remains of the Middle Horizon civilization that preceded the Chimu and Inca cultures in Peru. The Wari empire ruled from 500 to 900 CE, and its excavated capital city reveals the civilization's well-organized residential, administrative, and religious areas. The mortar clay and slate ruins reach up to 12 m (39 ft) in height in some places and bear revolutionary rectangular subdivisions--both signs of cutting-edge architecture for the time. The complex also showcases some of the excavated treasures, including skeletons, sculptures, and ceramic pots and plates. Before you head to Ayacucho, plan trip itinerary details with our user-friendly Ayacucho itinerary planner, to make sure you see all that Ayacucho has to offer, including Complejo Arqueologico Wari.

  • The visit is of passage to the pampas of ayacucho. Visit the Museum, and then the remains of what was the first empire of andes before the incas.

  • It is a visit that should not do while in Ayacucho. The complex is quite interesting. I recommend going with a guide as there is not much explanation to the public in general. Don't forget the repellent and the blocker
