Complejo Arqueologico Wari, Ayacucho

4.0
#5 of 19 in Things to do in Ayacucho
Discover the ancient capital city of Wari with a visit to Complejo Arqueologico Wari, all that remains of the Middle Horizon civilization that preceded the Chimu and Inca cultures in Peru. The Wari empire ruled from 500 to 900 CE, and its excavated capital city reveals the civilization's well-organized residential, administrative, and religious areas. The mortar clay and slate ruins reach up to 12 m (39 ft) in height in some places and bear revolutionary rectangular subdivisions--both signs of cutting-edge architecture for the time. The complex also showcases some of the excavated treasures, including skeletons, sculptures, and ceramic pots and plates. The complex is relatively large and filled with prickly pear plants. There is always sunlight so it is good to go with insect repellent and solar protection. It is a good place to photograph the landscape and is located near the cave of pikimachay. It is a better experience with a guided tour to learn how spare the Wari culture.

Very interesting. It is important to go with a guide, to get more out of what is observed in the Museum and the archaeological complex, and learn more about the history of everything what is observed, then still promote the place as a tourist attraction. Go with clothing and comfortable shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses and water, especially if you go with children.

A place that you should visit. LIS tours are bargain and is very close. We went by taxi to the station where they exit lis cars for that zone and by 7 Suns reach Wari, we indicate to the driver and stop at the stop so we go down. After the interesting tour around this vestige of this impressive culture archaeological Wari, take a "micro" took us 10'mas alla, quinoa, a picturesque small town where they sell crafts that you can buy anywhere but worth a visit. Back to the city we take a shared car. It was the best choice!
