  • This monastery preserves not only one of the libraries of the most important colonial times of the country. It has a lot more. And we discovered with surprise that the Lonely Planet not attributed the value that deserves, which is wrong in the description of your site. It is really a pleasant walk of 10 to 15 minutes from the Plaza de Armas on residential streets. I recommend visiting it strongly, but above all, of the hand of your guide, young passionate about collecting and capturing the stories of the past. It is a museum that breathes and lives. If you visit Arequipa, include it in your itinerary. Absolutely recommended.

  • Amazing place where you can find unexpected many different objects in such a small off-center monastery. The first thing is the library, where you will see books from different countries around the world, from different periods about different matters (science, musique, art...). And also a museum with things like a mummy! Or a large collection of strange animals and insects. If you are in Arequipa, just go there!
  • Calm and quiet place across the river, very few tourists, a great place to relax during an afternoon.
  • Not only the cloisters are pretty, but that his Museum is really surprising. Very austere in its facilities, but with a very good collection of pre-Columbian objects. The Amazon room very good and beautiful library.

Where to stay in Arequipa

Most accommodations in Arequipa cluster on the east side of the Chili River. The historical center offers the best selection of options, with plenty of budget hostels and mid-range hotels scattered throughout its streets. For something quieter, look north to the neighborhoods of Zemanat and San Jacinto. If you're looking for a suburban experience, stay in the western neighborhood of Yanahuara.
