Originally built by a Spanish colonist in 1621 and used for more than 400 years, the mill now serves as a historical attraction for tourists, who come to see its mill stones, floral gardens, and rural architecture that includes gargoyles and buttresses built from white volcanic stone. Explore the structure to find exhbits explaining how wheat was processed in the early years of European settlement. For a real treat, take a ride on horseback near the mill to see the gardens and countryside around the area. Animal lovers may want to visit the creatures that call the mill home, too, like llamas, guinea pigs, and bulls. • Despite the fact that we went with guide we not get a good explanation of the place. I thought it was expensive for what you see... One of the mills operating with the written explanation to one side and ready... I end...

  • This attraction was part of the tour and the entrance is 10 soles. Honestly, there's not much to do, explained to us about the mill, their operation and purpose, there are some animals, a small waterfall and lots of nature. You do not lose much if you miss it.

  • very nice, but quite far away from town
  • Interesting visit to learn the ancient method of grinding through a hydraulic mill. There is also the option of a short stroll on horseback. Pity that people pull waste and trash in ditches... need a little care in that.

Where to stay in Arequipa

Most accommodations in Arequipa cluster on the east side of the Chili River. The historical center offers the best selection of options, with plenty of budget hostels and mid-range hotels scattered throughout its streets. For something quieter, look north to the neighborhoods of Zemanat and San Jacinto. If you're looking for a suburban experience, stay in the western neighborhood of Yanahuara.
