La Mansion del Fundador, Arequipa

4.1
Admire the architecture of La Mansion del Fundador, a colonial estate with well-preserved buildings and restored interiors. Originally a residence of Arequipa's founder, Garci Manuel de Carbajal, the property was acquired by a congregation of Jesuits, who built many of the structures seen today, including terraces and chapels. In the late 18th century, the site became the home of Don Juan Crisostomo de Goyoneche y Aguerreverre, a Spanish nobleman and trader. During this period, the site gained many of the domestic features seen today. With artifacts arranged in situ across the complex's many rooms, the site offers a perspective on how the upper echelons of society lived during the colonial era. • This beautiful property initially belonged to the founder of the city of Arequipa, Don Manuel Garcí de Carbajal, according to history this command to build this House so there lived her lover and her son, who had Down's syndrome, now belongs to a a family that lives in Spain and is rented out for various events for 20 thousand suns. Worth knowing this place, not imagine how beautiful that is its architecture. The entrance costs 12 Suns.

Where to stay in Arequipa

Most accommodations in Arequipa cluster on the east side of the Chili River. The historical center offers the best selection of options, with plenty of budget hostels and mid-range hotels scattered throughout its streets. For something quieter, look north to the neighborhoods of Zemanat and San Jacinto. If you're looking for a suburban experience, stay in the western neighborhood of Yanahuara.
