#3 of 12 in Museums in Arequipa
Discover a collection of artworks and artifacts at Cathedral of Arequipa Museum, a cultural institution situated inside an impressive place of worship. Destroyed by earthquakes and reconstructed repeatedly over a period of more than 400 years, the cathedral's museum finally opened in 2011. Take a tour of the building to see its large church organ and many religious partings and sculptures, and be sure to head up to the top floor to gain sweeping views of the surrounding city. • At the entrance we paid 10 soles of input, and we were informed that there was a guided tour optional and that the payment was voluntary. We said we didn't want the tour and told us that we should still expect the Guide to enter. When we entered, and disband the tour a security guard came to tell us that we could not walk alone and should be with the Guide. The guide said it was required to pay 10 soles to her. I wouldn't mind paying 10 20 or 30 soles if it was done honestly. The Cathedral is more impressive from the outside than in your interior and the Museum is very dull.

  • Like most of the historical centre and museums built in volcanic stone. Mganifica. Good guided tour. Includes visitia to the Bell Tower, which had not had opportunity to visit other cities.

  • You can not go with shorts or sandals. Do not take pictures inside. You'll see one of the largest of the Peru organs. It is huge and is back. Outside take the photo with the facade. Only Sundays it is open throughout the day. The Cathedral Museum is open from Monday to Friday.

  • Linda
  • There is a very interesting Museum inside the Cathedral of Arequipa. To be able to visit there a tour in which each space of the Cathedral tour. Documents, costumes, jewelry and more are exhibited as it progresses. Already the ceiling shows the Bell Tower and from there there is a spectacular view of the plaza of arms as well as the volcanoes. This tour is a must and not to be missed, very good experience.

  • Visit fast but very well! In french! Predict 10 soles per person + 5 soles per person for the guide. The only way to access the roof of the Cathedral.

  • You can be works of art that are part of the Cathedral as well as enter and reach one of the bell towers and walk along the roof of this beautiful place. Very friendly guides to answer tidas consultations.

  • It is not better than the Cathedral of Lima. Costs more and practically one must "pay" your guide to part of general admission. What we liked was the sector of jewelry where we saw beautiful diamonds and gemstones incrustradas in ornaments that were used in the religious colony.

Where to stay in Arequipa

Most accommodations in Arequipa cluster on the east side of the Chili River. The historical center offers the best selection of options, with plenty of budget hostels and mid-range hotels scattered throughout its streets. For something quieter, look north to the neighborhoods of Zemanat and San Jacinto. If you're looking for a suburban experience, stay in the western neighborhood of Yanahuara.
