  • Upon my return to Arequipa, after 15 years, one of the Nice improvements is "Mercaderes" which became pedestrian street. The fun of market gently without car traffic and to stop at the "Capriccio" to enjoy a cappuccino and a good dessert  take time to circulate slowly and visit the shops and restaurants.

  • It is a pedestrian thoroughfare, such as most of the Centre of Arequipa, where there are shops and some of the best restaurants in the city, recommended for walking if there is free time.

  • This street was the first pedestrian in Arequipa, which has many shops in their 4 or 5 blocks and some very beautiful as the theatre and the Interbank Bank buildings, worth walking for her to enjoy some of the beautiful Arequipa architecture.

  • It’s sad to say but this is a hostel that has somehow lost its way. The bathroom are terrible very old paint coming from the ceiling and showers not attached to the wall. It’s such a shame as it has the potential to be great with an amazing roof terrace and it’s the closet hostel to the main square the management need to do so updating and repairs immediately.
  • I really can't understand how this hostel is so well rated. The only good thing I've found was the location, other than that no hot water, no wifi in the bedrooms, staff not friendly. I assume it used to be great, but definitely lost its way.
  • Very good hostel, the staff is very nice and add to the general good mood that reigns there. The terrasse has a pretty decent view on the surrounding volcanos and the city and you can appreciate nice sunsets too ! Great memories from Arequipa thanks to the hostel and its people !
  • Hostel is overall good but did not like that they over charged on the conversion rate. We paid by hostel world but when paying in soles "their local currency" they charge you a very high rate for soles than anywhere in town.
  • I booked this hostel because it has great reviews and photos (f.ex. at HostelWorld)...but reality is very different. Rooms are wet, moldy and stinky. When I asked lady at the reception for another room, she was very unpleasant...and after that moved us to another but still ugly room. If you want something nice and clean, don ´t go there.

Where to stay in Arequipa

Most accommodations in Arequipa cluster on the east side of the Chili River. The historical center offers the best selection of options, with plenty of budget hostels and mid-range hotels scattered throughout its streets. For something quieter, look north to the neighborhoods of Zemanat and San Jacinto. If you're looking for a suburban experience, stay in the western neighborhood of Yanahuara.
