  • A very pleasant place to visit. The view is beautiful. The light blue sky. You can see the place in State wild and domesticated camelid as well as migratory birds. Go warm because it's very cold and if they're lucky snowing

  • The national reserve can be reached from Arequipa by private transport but also with public transport (approximately every hour passing a bus on the only paved road). It seems incredible that to more than 4000 meters of altitude there are little towns, train stations, restaurants and even football fields. The landscapes of the reserve are amazing: a plateau where you meet so many species of animals: vicunas, llamas, alpacas, chinchillas, flamingos. The plateau is surrounded by volcanoes taller than 6 thousand meters of which one hour is up and every 30 seconds throws her smoke high into the sky. Along the way you will encounter rare species of vegetation and many small lakes. The ride is to do with calm because at every step you stop to take photographs. Particular is the stop at "Mirador de los Andes" at 4880 meters. Here you can stop for shopping or going to the bathroom (it's a very rural).

Where to stay in Arequipa

Most accommodations in Arequipa cluster on the east side of the Chili River. The historical center offers the best selection of options, with plenty of budget hostels and mid-range hotels scattered throughout its streets. For something quieter, look north to the neighborhoods of Zemanat and San Jacinto. If you're looking for a suburban experience, stay in the western neighborhood of Yanahuara.
