Plaza Uruguaya, Asuncion

3.0
Take a break from sightseeing at Plaza Uruguaya, a quaint plaza originally the location of the Convent of San Francisco during colonial times. Today people stop to relax on a bench and watch the life of the city go by in this small plaza. Take in the surrounding statues and greenery, or go shopping for a souvenir at the small huts that sell items, particularly Spanish books. On the outskirts of the plaza sit small cafes, or check out the nearby historical train station to see some of the standing history of the area. • This place redone two years ago, was a little respectable place. Many Indian drunk, on drugs. This place is even disreputable overnight, as a good part of Asuncion. Only interest, El Pais, the oldest store in the capital city supermarket.

  • Located in the historic centre of the city, formerly known as Plaza San Francisco, the first name is that a Franciscan order who possessed an okochochi of slaves and beasts poultry was located at this place. Later during the Government of Dr. Francia became headquarters of the army. Of Uruguay Republic Plaza or Plaza uruguaya as it is known by locals, was named in honor of the gesture of the then President Max Santos, who presented a draft law to return objects that had been stolen in 1855 during the War of the Triple Alliance. A monument to José Artigas stand out and one in homage was recently opened to Augusto Roa Bastos.

  • One of the best places in Asunción. Relaxed, but vibrant. A perfect place to spend a day in the shade watching life go by.
  • Beautiful plaza full of trees and right in downtown Asunción. Good place to start your walking tour of central Asunción.
  • Cool park in the outskirts of downtown.Popular with tourists and locals alike. Their are lots of hostels nearby and food carts too.
  • Not much here for a tourist to see. Just an oasis of green in the urban landscape. I visited on a Sunday afternoon and it seemed to be a pretty friendly place. Kids were were playing on the swing sets, young parents were walking their toddlers, and lovers were cuddling on the benches.
  • Sometimes this park is great but other times its just OK. A nice place to sit on a bench and relax, unless there is someone asleep on it

Where to stay in Asuncion

Most of Asuncion's best hotels cluster in the city center, which can be crowded and noisy throughout the day. Less expensive options near the main bus terminal draw backpackers and other budget travelers, providing few amenities but quick links to public transport. For longer stays, consider renting a furnished apartment, which ensures more space and privacy, plus the chance to cook your own food in a fully equipped kitchen.
