Plaza de Francia, Panama City
Categories: Historic Sites, Tourist Spots
Shaded by flame trees adorned with bright-orange blossoms, Plaza de Francia pays homage to French workers who died from yellow fever and malaria during the construction of the canal. A statue of one of Panama's founding fathers and presidents greats you at the front of the plaza. Walk to the obelisk topped by a rooster at the end of the plaza, and see marble plaques and statues, which recount the arduous task of the 22,000 workers. Look for the statue of Carlos J.Finlay, a Cuban doctor whose discovery helped eradicate the yellow fever, across from the French Embassy among the busts of French lieutenants. The former Spanish dungeons, which line the side of the plaza, today house upscale art galleries and shops. An elevated walk atop the old fortification walls offers views of the ocean. Plaza de Francia is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our online itinerary creator, Panama City Edition.

Lo mejor para mi punto de vista es la pasarela con mirador que va por encima de lo que fue la cárcel, se puede observar la ciudad moderna que emerge del mar, la vista de la tarde deja la boca abierta. It best for my point of view is it gateway with viewpoint that goes above what was the prison, is can observe it city modern that emerges of the sea, the view of the afternoon leaves the mouth open.show original

Great place to walk around. Nice views of the tall structure and ocean.
Perhaps not to visit for the views, but there are usually some guys selling colourful shaved ice from their carts - well worth to taste :)
