Mercado de Mariscos, Panama City

2.5
#6 of 18 in Shopping in Panama City
For fish so fresh it’s nearly flapping amid the buzzing atmosphere of a city’s fresh fish market, head to Mercado de Mariscos. Tuna, snapper, lobster, octopus--everything on offer is yours to take home for the right price, or have cooked to perfection in the authentic fish restaurant located upstairs. The fresh ceviche on sale from many of the vendors is a tasty and very popular delicacy; grab one to go and take a walk around the busting market, which overlooks the harbor. • What are improving, reshaping and adapting, hopefully look good. Parking is impossible, at night take taxi, it is sometimes complicated, dark and tardecito might care. The smell at any time of the day is strong, nauseous and insoportobable, at times. It is a popular site, with loud music, sound at the time 10 different songs, almost all vallenato. There are many young people... all Venezuelans, trying to win customers for its local, sometimes uncomfortable by the frantic insistence. The food, although it has reasonable prices, it is not the best. Pedi a snapper that turned out with not very good smell... I could not finish, this added to the noise, the general smell, the darkness out, more the venec, although almost all well-like young... turned out to be a disappointing site...

  • In the early morning, when the fish is still fresh and many offer, visit the fish Hall is the most interesting. Then many, some large species and molluscs and crabs that exotic effect in part, found it stinks not too much and it is relatively quiet. Then modest is the number of the buyer and the seller have leisure before the storm, to read the daily newspaper. Compared to many other fish or meat markets in Latin America, this is quite clean, because simply furnished and maintained. Well worth a visit for seafood lovers and interested, otherwise it's not very spectacular.

  • The fish market is not very large. Nice to see different types of fish. You're quickly through it. Reasonably priced to cheap. Behind it are several ' seafood restaurants '. Everybody has an offer for you if you're there around lunch time around runs. There are several small fishing boats in the water. Almost everyone is doing something there. Mainly local people.
