Iglesia del Carmen, Panama City

4.6
#6 of 13 in Historic Sites in Panama City
Admire the monumental gothic-style facade of Iglesia del Carmen, some of the most visually striking architecture in all of Panama City. An homage to the gothic architectural style of the Middle Ages, the first stone of the church wasn’t actually laid until 1947, with its inauguration finally taking place in July, 1953. Step inside and find ornate stained glass windows and an intricately decorated altar positioned amongst beautifully carved stone pillars. The two towers of this Roman Catholic church rise high into the heavens, said by believers to help elevate prayers to God. One Sunday morning in September, it's sunny, we pass the Church of Carmen and there is a lot of back and forth. Inside, hundreds of people attended a mass. The priest and the altar servers are dressed in the purest Catholic tradition, cassock and chasuble, looks at Quebec in the early 1960s. The faithful are concentrated on their prayers, some light up lanterns, there is even the merchants from the temple outside. These images wake up a lot of memories.

It is a beautiful and icon Church Gothic style in the Centre of the city of Panama. On the road is worth Spain, near the homonymous Metro station, get off the metro and take it in a few minutes. Beautifully decorated with many details, precious frescoes and stained glass. Perhaps one of the five most beautiful churches of the city of Panama.

One of the beautiful churches I've seen. Very spiritual, the priests are amazing. I love coming to Panama on a Sunday and attending mass here at this church. Very accessible, parking is usually full but the attendants are there to help you park. If you are a devout catholic or not you need to visit the church when mass is not in process.
