Ancon Hill, Panama City

#1 of 83 in Outdoors in Panama City
Get your bearings and escape the bustle of Panama on top of Ancon Hill. Once used by the U.S. government to survey the Panama Canal, and given back to Panama in 1977, the hill now boasts a lush, protected jungle, home to a diverse range of wildlife and offering spectacular panoramas. Consider packing a picnic and hiking the short way to the top; from there you can survey the city and get a lay of the land. Keep your eyes peeled for sloths and armadillos as you walk. Make Ancon Hill a centerpiece of your Panama City vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Panama City travel itinerary planner.

  • We took a late afternoon stroll to the top of Ancon Hill. The hike is moderate and completely paved. The scenery is beautiful. The entire hike you are surrounded with Panamanian foliage and wildlife, ...  more »
  • It is a place that you should go in Panama, the view to the city is the best, also the flora and fauna that exists in is magnificent, is first passed through a sector of American houses, and then enters the protected sector where there is a bunker that unfortunately can not be entered. is there than getting walking

  • We must climb walking but is justified, first one passes by the houses of the Americans and then one sees much flora and fauna, where you see many animals much flora and even a bunker of the Americans that can not enter

  • Amazing Views of Panama City. We took a cab ride to get to the top, It is a 650 foot hill that includes the highest point in all of Panama City. It's history is interesting, as it was controlled by the US as part of the Panama Canal Zone until 1977. Then it was returned to Panama. The views are spectacular. It is a great side trip for an hour or two. Highly recommended.
  • It’s a good hiking spot in the middle of the city with amazing views into the city, the Canal, and with lots of nature and fauna to see
  • Was good place before now has been too much security issues and.have to take a long walk to reach top also the flag area is locked so no use have lost a good touristic place in Panama City
  • Cerro Ancon provides you with a beautiful view of Panama City and the surrounding areas, it also is a very serene and beautiful location as well.
  • Sloths everywhere but go with a guide from lunas castle.
