Panama Rainforest Discovery Center, Gamboa

#1 of 7 in Parks in Colon Province
Nature-lovers should not miss Panama Rainforest Discovery Center, a park displaying the most exotic of Panama's avian species and plant life. Set in lush rainforest, the center boasts a 32 m (104 ft) observation deck from which you can see a number of tropical birds--especially toucans and blue cotinga. Don't miss the hummingbird feeding area near the information center. Monkeys, crocodiles, coatis, and butterflies also roam here. Organized tours or taxis are the best ways of getting to the center, as no buses serve the area. We have no tour booked but an uber taxi ($16) from Panama city taken to Gamboa. The last piece we had to walk because the road was impassable. At Rainforest discovery center was a colony of monkeys in the trees. They were shouting to another colony away. The Jungle trail is here made passable and a high observation tower. Drenched in sweat, we came up, but the view was well worth the climb. Coming back to Panama city was a challenge but after 4 km back to Gamboa we found someone who wanted to bring us (for $20). For many, perhaps too adventurous in this fashion but I had it bigtime.

Basically Spotting animals depend on your luck and experience. Driving car there yourself is very easy, but maybe nothing was seen. Guide needed absolutely.

We observed each layer of the rain forest from the 32 meter high view tower. We were stunned by the abundance of hummingbirds on the center's terrace. We went for a hike to the lake shore and saw amazing insects, birds. Take your kids here if you are in the area and have an hour or two.

A great place to take a walk and admire the birds, which is agouti, lizards, single cat and other species. At the end of the tour you can enjoy a fish with the Lady Gume patacones. This is one of the favorite sites of tribe Guarumo and several of its members work or perform volunteer work.
