Pipeline Trail, Boquete

#2 of 6 in Trails in Panama
Hike through lush green rainforest along Pipeline Trail and reward yourself for your efforts with views of the 91 m (300 ft) tall waterfall located at the end of the trail. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for a rich diversity of animal life, including the ever-elusive quetzal, toucans, howler monkeys, and sloths. Along the path, you'll see a 1,400-year-old tree called "The Really Old Tree." Take a good pair of hiking boots, light clothing, and your own water supply. • Although our guide sought out a quetzal for us to view, October is not the best month for spotting this unique bird. Our treat were the howler monkeys. I don't think we would have spotted them without...  more »
  • In Boquete we took a taxi to the start of the trail (8 dollars). At a small wooden house we paid 3 dollars each to a friendly guy. You do not need a guide, the trail is easy to do by yourself. The wat...  more »
  • This was a lovely hike. The first part is an old road which is not as nice as when you get into the forest. The canopy was so thick that the rain never made it to the ground. Everything was so green a...  more »

  • Really easy hike with a nice waterfall in the end. The waterfall is not that big and spectacular but it’s a nice hike overall.
  • Definitely worth it, saw 3 or 4 quetzals and many other varieties of birds. There's a tree that's almost 1000 years old. Entrance fee is $3 and you can buy water and snacks at the entrance.
  • Hicking place. Easy to walk in some places. Very risky “bridges”. But gorgeous view.
  • Great hike. We saw two quetzals at 2 km mark.
  • Directions: From the main park in Boquete keep walking north to a mini super called "S/C Bruña", there you´ll see a bunch of mini buses. The one I took said "Alto Quiel Bajo Mono". $1.75-$2 one way. About 30 mnts. Tell the driver to which trail you're going.. but there's really no way to miss your stop. Entrance fee $3.00. Took me about 1.5h with no rush and a lot of talking in the way. Is not difficult. The path to follow is really clear. Don't confuse this trail with the "Lost Waterfalls" one. This one in spanish is called "Cascada Escondida", which confused me and has nothing to do with the english name.
