  • Overall, learning rehabilitation for howler monkeys, working alongside local Panamanians and the location of the sanctuary was positive and a good experience. The monkeys were well taken care of, was one of the better rehabilitation centers in Panama and with more people various research protocols could take place (first priority are the monkeys). However, there were several issues with operations and management from the directors that need to be addressed and there needs to be a complete overhaul of the internship experience. Unfortunately too, the sanctuary closed at the end of my internship and the monkeys relocated by the Ministry of the Environment due to inadequate funding, interns, a lack of hiring a second manager on-site (one person cannot stay there alone) and other issues.
  • Beautiful place in the Mountain. The people who live and work there do great things for the howler monkeys. Go have a look and have a great lunch! And donate a couple of buck for a good cause!
