Shepherd's Sanctuary, Beit Sahour
(5/5 based on 35 reviews on the web)
At Shepherd's Sanctuary, see the place where, according to the biblical story, the famous shepherds heard about the birth of baby Jesus. Located in the hills that overlook the city of Bethlehem, the building and the whole site serve as an oasis of calm away from the crowds below. Admire the charming garden around the chapel, then head inside to see a model of the shepherds playing their famous role two thousand years ago; you’ll find yourself in a room whose walls are covered in painted nativity scenes. You can also visit the small church on site to pay your respects. A visit to Shepherd's Sanctuary represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Beit Sahour trip itinerary maker to plot your vacation.

  • As a stopover on the way to Bethlehem highly recommended - a quiet, beautiful place away from the hustle and bustle

  • Here are the angels appeared allegedly shepherds and them have proclaimed the birth of Jesus. A quiet place which is not visited by many tourists groups. Unfortunately, the caves (as of 2016) are no longer employed. And thus, the water cisterns are no longer visible. Still worth a visit. Well, you can see the terrain / barrier. And imagine how King David, Ruth, shepherds have lived at that time. Sure, the biblical reference for the visitors is important - otherwise you are probably disappointed.
