Masjid Wazir Khan (Wazir Khan Mosque), Lahore

Categories: Landmarks, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.7/5 based on 80+ reviews on the web
Admire walls decorated in intricate floral patterns and beautiful "faience" tile work at Masjid Wazir Khan (Wazir Khan Mosque), a prime example of Mughal architecture. Built in only 7 years between 1634-1635, the mosque displays Koran verses and Persian poetry in bright colors including cobalt, blue, green, and yellow, embellished with glazed tile mosaics and written in elegant calligraphy. Engraved honeycomb patterns on the ceiling and in the minarets resemble the famous Alhambra in Spain. An unusual feature are the minarets which soar into the air 30 m (100 ft) high, the first of their kind for this type of mosque in Lahore.
