Lahore Fort (Shahi Qila), Lahore

4.5
#2 of 43 in Things to do in Lahore
Castle Tourist Spot
The former residence and legacy of the Mughal dynasty, UNESCO-protected Lahore Fort (Shahi Qila) captivates for its monumental beauty and the mystery surrounding it. Although the fort flourished under Emperor Akbar of the Mughal dynasty, its origins extend as far back as the 11th century. Ornate decorations and colorful mosaics on every step speak for the wealth of the dynasty, while somewhat shabby conditions invoke a feeling of antiquity. Enjoy a walk through vast gardens while the sun sets in beautiful hues of pink and orange. Hire a tour guide and explore the numerous pavilions, then head to the Mughal museum, armory gallery, and the Sikh museum. Put Lahore Fort (Shahi Qila) into our Lahore travel itinerary maker and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • One of the fantastic places to visit for 1st timers in Lahore. Historic place and tourist attraction. Neat and well maintained , recently public park is expanded which have increased its beauty. Good place for day out. Public toilets are too busy and not hygienic.

Where to stay in Lahore

Visitors are met with a great deal of choice when deciding where to stay in Lahore, and not just because of the range of accommodations available. In this regularly congested city, travel can be a real pain, so the advantages and disadvantages of each district need to be weighed against each other. Each area has a mix of standard and luxury hotels, as well as guesthouses with private and shared rooms. The old town in the north has a wealth of architectural highlights to see, but little to do after dark. Further to the south, the Mall Road area has some chain hotels, restaurants, and places to go in the evening, while the areas of Defence and Gulberg have become synonymous with hotels and nightlife options.
