3.4/5 based on 80+ reviews on the web
An example of exuberant Mughal architecture, World Heritage Site Fort and Shalamar Gardens offers three level garden terraces built in the 17th century with intricate decorations and intriguing water systems. The 410 fountains in the gardens relieve visitors by creating a cooler temperature, and 7 km (4.3 mi) away rests the fort, built in 16th century. Observe the baked brick and red sandstone buildings decorated with motives of Persian origins, the curved roof pavilion, and the lavish marble mosques. Explore the ladies quarters and harem Jahangir's "Quandrangle" (a courtyard enclosed by a building) and learn about the secretive life of the royal women.
