Fort and Shalamar Gardens, Lahore

3.6
#2 of 9 in Parks in Lahore
Garden Landmark
An example of exuberant Mughal architecture, World Heritage Site Fort and Shalamar Gardens offers three level garden terraces built in the 17th century with intricate decorations and intriguing water systems. The 410 fountains in the gardens relieve visitors by creating a cooler temperature, and 7 km (4.3 mi) away rests the fort, built in 16th century. Observe the baked brick and red sandstone buildings decorated with motives of Persian origins, the curved roof pavilion, and the lavish marble mosques. Explore the ladies quarters and harem Jahangir's "Quandrangle" (a courtyard enclosed by a building) and learn about the secretive life of the royal women. Where to stay in Lahore

Visitors are met with a great deal of choice when deciding where to stay in Lahore, and not just because of the range of accommodations available. In this regularly congested city, travel can be a real pain, so the advantages and disadvantages of each district need to be weighed against each other. Each area has a mix of standard and luxury hotels, as well as guesthouses with private and shared rooms. The old town in the north has a wealth of architectural highlights to see, but little to do after dark. Further to the south, the Mall Road area has some chain hotels, restaurants, and places to go in the evening, while the areas of Defence and Gulberg have become synonymous with hotels and nightlife options.
