Follow in the footsteps of Alexander the Great and see a mosque built from salt rocks at Khewra Salt Mine. In 320 BCE, Alexander’s troops discovered the mine, and during British rule the mining engineer developed the main tunnel. Nowadays, you can take a train tour around the mine, seeing the incredible salt mosque, as well as many attractive saltwater pools. Don't miss the artistic carvings in the mine, including a model of the Great Wall of China. On your journey, you’ll pass through crystal valley, as well as a tunnel with crystals in its walls. The mine remains the country’s largest source of salt. Plan your Khewra Salt Mine visit and explore what else you can see and do in Khewra using our Khewra family vacation planner.
