Karachi Zoo, Karachi

1.9
#4 of 6 in Outdoors in Karachi
See a wide variety of animals, kept with care and attention in good condition at Karachi Zoo, the second-oldest zoo in the country. Among many perennial favorites, the highlight here remains its elephant house. Head to the reptile area to see one of the few such places in Pakistan. The onsite natural history museum also draws crowds with its collections of taxidermied animals, horns, antlers, and feathers. • The animals are all confined to small, cement jail cells. The elephants were begging for food. I have not ONE positive thing to say about this zoo!  more »

  • The Karachi Zoo Park is a pretty good place to bring your family, there are a lot of beautiful animals and especially the reptile house is much enjoyable. But the place is not fully maintained and the Lahore Zoo is much better than this one. Moreover MEN are not allowed on Wednesdays.
  • Overall a great place to visit with your lods and family. Make sure you keep eyes on your kids all the time. Best place to visit is morning. Also bring some food to feed animals like breads, buns, bananas, etc...
  • Karachi Zoo, established in year 1878, was commonly called as 'Mahatma Gandhi Garden'. In 1861, the zoo was transferred to municipality by the government. In 1878, the municipality placed the zoo under a trust to be developed out of public subscription. Later, the zoo was once again opened to public in 1881. After the independence of Pakistan in 1947, the name was changed to 'Karachi Zoological Gardens' or 'Karachi Zoo' for short. In 1953, Karachi Metropolitan Corporationintroduced a zoo curator and a qualified veterinary doctor. In 1991-2 CDGK for remodelling of Natural History Museum, which was carried out. In 1992, the Japanese Princess inaugurated the remodeled Natural History Museum. Currently, total strength of Karachi Zoo is about 240 staff members.
  • Karachi zoo is great place it has many kind of animals and the great thing is that the area is too big so everyone's can go and get fresh their mind. Need some sort of maintenance there government or committee should care all of these.
  • Karachi zoo is a nice place for relaxing and enjoying with family. Animals are suffering not giving proper food to them. Also not Maintained.

Where to stay in Karachi

The sprawling city of Karachi has a variety of accommodations able to cater to the relatively modest amount of international visitors it receives each year. By far the most popular place to stay lies close to the sea in South Karachi. This district contains two of the main middle class neighborhoods in the city, and a high proportion of its museums, venues, and restaurants. The main hotels sit over in the commercial districts close to the station, with some budget-friendly guesthouses and hostels sitting in their shadows.
