Wadi Shab, Sur

4.6
#1 of 44 in Parks in Oman
Hike your way through narrow canyons leading to crystal clear pools and hidden waterfalls at Wadi Shab. Framed within a barren sandstone ravine, this lush oasis features lower pools that provide a source of drinking water, while the higher ones remains popular with swimmers and those seeking pristine scenery. Meander along a sloping trail lined with banana palms, making your way past village ruins and plantations to shimmering pools and a cavernous waterfall. Restrooms are located at the base of the valley. Avoid hiking in the midday heat. • The blue ocean and the rocky beige beach is a nice place to go for a walk. It's a pristine beach but I did not see anyone swimming. We encountered one restaurant tgat we stopped in for lunch.  more »

  • Wadi Shab is one of the nicer wadi's to visit. A beautiful walk through a rock valley. You need to take a boat for 1 riel to cross at the start, and then walk through a valley where you will end up at a beautiful place to swim. If you swim in the upper pools, you will make it to the end where you can swim into a cave with a wonderful waterfall you can climb up and jump into. An excellent outing, with a fairly easy hike through some rocks.
  • Beautiful. Worth the 45 minute walk. Then there is about a 20-minute walk/swim. That walking is across some rocks, so you will want some water shoes. At the end there is a small opening, big enough for your head above the water, and you pass through to an amazing cave with a waterfall inside. Highly recommended!
  • If you're visiting Oman. This trek is a must. It's amazing. Wear comfortable clothes for the hike. Don't forget to bring your swim clothes. There's a bit of swimming at the end, so carry a waterproof camera or a bag to carry stuff in water. I wore light shoes which I swam with. At the end of the trek/swim you reach a cave which can only be accessed by going through a thin crevice. The inside of the cave is beautiful. Diving into the pool at the cave is fun. You should do it if you can climb up the rope. Set aside a half day for this trek and go there early to beat the crowds and to get good views.
  • Worth the walk and swim up to the cave with the waterfall. Although next time I would wear some form of shoe as some of the rocks and pebbles on the bottom of the river bed were quite sharp. Great to see so many people enjoying a picnic by the water and its free to walk the 35 mind before you need to start swimming.
  • Amazing This came highly recommended. I'd put it down as my no. 2 thing to do in Oman (after snorkeling). It's easy to find from the main road. You begin under the main road and get a boat across the wadi for 1 Rial return. Then it's a gentle 45 minute hike to the swimming spot. You can leave belongings here and proceed through the water to different pools and a cave. In the cave you can climb up the waterfall to further pools and more climbs.
