Wadi Shab, Sur

4.6
#1 of 44 in Parks in Oman
Hike your way through narrow canyons leading to crystal clear pools and hidden waterfalls at Wadi Shab. Framed within a barren sandstone ravine, this lush oasis features lower pools that provide a source of drinking water, while the higher ones remains popular with swimmers and those seeking pristine scenery. Meander along a sloping trail lined with banana palms, making your way past village ruins and plantations to shimmering pools and a cavernous waterfall. Restrooms are located at the base of the valley. Avoid hiking in the midday heat. • Me and my friend reached the place at around 4.30 pm and we came to know that we have to cross the water body through a boat ride and from there it is 45 minutes walk to reach the site. Last boat to r...  more »
  • The walk is about 7,000 steps there & back & not too arduous as long as you have water. The views are spectacular & it was great to see that most of the rubbish that was there last year has been clean...  more »
  • ... makes the same mistake as we. We have read here, it is advisable to take a waterproof bag to transport the clothes in it. It is far too cumbersome. But from the front. It is advisable there early to be (about 10 hours). Once there you should have a reasonable PP have. 1 OMR P.p.. back and forth it is for. The trail is very nice. It runs through a Gorge and left and right rock faces in the height rise. Again and again you will find water basin. I recommend at least trekking shoes. Everything else is negligent. Especially if you have the first part by the water. It is extremely slippery. Any water shoes to at least walk in the water on the stones. At some point, you reach the watering hole, at which you then have to find the impressive cave with the narrow entrance through the water. Here, you can let the clothes and everything well on the shore and enjoy the place first of all. Possibly also picnicking (waste again take!). The waterway in the cave must be floated. Therefore would rather leave the luggage ashore. Have fun!

  • Beautiful walley with small water pockets, scenic view and fresh water. However you should be ready to walk far to see more breath taking spots in Wadi. Do not carry heavy things as it will make walk difficult. Take water and swimming gears.
  • Amazing wadi with fresh water. You must swim and walk through the different levels till you reach the very interesting internal cave and waterfall
  • The most beautiful Wadi in all of Oman. Great for swimming in the fall and winter months. Too dry and hot during the summer months.
  • Probably the most famous Wadi in Oman is getting pretty crowded, especially during weekends. But it is still worth visiting as the swimming pools are really awesome. Try to get to the very last Laguna and climb upstairs where you can find another great place. As many places around it's getting ruined by stupid people littering everywhere around.
  • Great hike, though can get too hot if you go in the early afternoon. Takes about 1 hour each way, but make sure to bring enough water. Swimming at the top is the perfect way to cool down after the hike.
