Nabi Ayoub's Tomb, Salalah

2.3
Take a drive from Salalah to Nabi Ayoub's Tomb, the supposed resting place of Job, or Nabi Ayoub as he is known in the Arab world. A scenic mountain road will take you up to the site, a popular pilgrimage spot for Muslims, and you might spot camels along the way. You'll need to dress modestly and take off your shoes before you enter the mosque, where you can see the tomb that holds the remains of the prophet and pay your respects. Take the guesswork out of planning a Salalah vacation by using our trip itinerary maker.

  • A very unusual place. I advise to go there only to believers. For other people, unusual and interesting things there: humble, poor House which is located in the middle of the Tomb, covered with green cloth. On the walls in the old frame hanging family tree of all the prophets and texts from the Koran. It is believed that this is the tomb of the Prophet job. But for the sake of the truth to say that several countries challenged the right of the tomb of job, claiming that he was buried with them: Syria, Lebanon, Turkey and Uzbekistan. In any case, this is the tomb of the holy man and goes back to pre-Islamic times. The grave is located in a small house behind the fenced yard of the mosque, there is an inscription on the gate. Next to the Tomb there is a little room for prayer. Looking beyond the grave keeper, he and indicates where you want to go. The biblical story of job, I think, everyone knows. So I will tell one of the alternative stories of the Saint. It states that he was originally from Syria. Was a very pious man. But one day it struck a terrible disease, worms almost ate his body. Illness as frightened residents of his country that he was forced to resign from their seats and came up with one of the wives in the mountains, where his tomb now. Holy believed that illness was sent from God and 15 years patiently endured all hardships. Only at the end, he cried out to the Lord, pleading to heal him. The Lord told them to get out of the House and put a foot on a stone at the same time opened an underground source and healed. So far, close to the House we see a trace of his feet. That's just the water anymore. The trail itself is huge, it is believed that in those days people were significantly taller. The Tomb itself is unusually long: 4 meters long and 1.5 meters wide. Near the gate grows a fig tree, if you come into the season, the caretaker will treat you figs (i.e. figs).

Where to stay in Salalah

The main hotels of Salalah sit close to the sea, enjoying extensive views of the coast, private beaches, pools, and fine-dining restaurants. Some particularly luxurious resorts can be found along the coastal roads, with sculpted grounds and onsite malls. Inland, where the real city sits, you'll find some similarly luxurious hotels. However, there's a much greater choice of standard options, with a pool perhaps, a restaurant for sure, and comfortable rooms. Rental apartments along 23rd July Street provide perhaps the best budget-friendly options in town.
