Create an itinerary including Nizwa Fort
A perfectly preserved example of classic Omani architecture, Nizwa Fort proudly looks out over the city and remains of the oldest of structures its kind in the country. Constructed above an underground stream in the mid-17th century, the fort is known for its monumental drum tower, soaring 30 m (98.4 ft) up into the sky and studded with lookout and firing points. Long the seat of power for the ruling imams, the fort also served as an intimidating stronghold during various conflicts. Enter past two majestic canons, then wind your way around terraces, corridors, and stairways leading to the top of the cylindrical tower, where panoramic views of the town and Hajar Mountains reward your efforts. • World heritage site - great to visit and explore but not much interaction with the visitors. some areas were off limits like climbing up the tower which was a shame.

  • Steeped in history, this fort showcases how people thought and lived centuries ago. It's quite an educational place to bring kids to, and a fun fact finding one. Loved it
  • Reasonably priced to enter. Very well kept and tidy. As its a Fort, there are many different levels and steps to navigate. Useful info and artifacts.
  • It was a amazing experience, especially the history of the fort was really interesting. Only one thing I would not recommend visiting there in very hot weather. It will make difficult to enjoy the visit.
  • Awesome place to visit, but the ticket price quite high. This is the right place for everyone who love photography, I satisfy with the detail, especially when the sunset hit the fort. Beautiful 😊
  • An absolutely fabulous experience. Beautifully preserved fort, friendly staff and fantastic piece of history. Definitely worth a visit. The Souq is a treasure trove of trinkets and historical pieces. We had a fabulous day! Thank you Nizwa Fort!
