Mazara Dam, Muscat
(4.5/5 based on 110+ reviews on the web)
Nature and man-made infrastructure harmoniously coexist at Mazara Dam, which provides much of the region's drinking water. Completed in 2012, the dam collects vast amounts of the mountain rainfall, controlling the flow of water to the distant villages below. Take a picnic and sit in the lush parkland by the 8 km (5 mi) reservoir, which boasts a capacity of 100 million cu m (3.5 billion cu ft) of fresh rainwater. Drive to the 75 m (246 ft) heights of the dam for a scenic view of the surrounding amber limestone mountains and valleys. • What an amazing place- and not well known/advertized but definitely worth a visit! I was really thankful that our guide included this in our tour.
  • Wadi Dayqah, Quriyat dam on the Muscat Sur road. About an hour and half drive near Quriyat. Easy to reach and has a small park where you can spend time with family. The place has basic facilities like...  more »
  • The dam is very beautiful, although I have been in a dry period (haven't seen much water passing from one side to the other), the flooded area is huge and can be seen until the plane. At some points it is possible to see people bathing.
