Wadi Bani Khalid, Ash-Sharqiyah Governorate
Categories: Wildlife Areas, Nature & Parks
Dip in an emerald green pool amidst limestone cliffs fringed with vegetation at Wadi Bani Khalid, a striking landscape cut into the Al Hajar mountains. Admire waterfalls pouring over boulders, explore caves with strange light, and snap photos of the green and red rocks--the result of copper oxide and iron ore. A scenic hike will take you to natural springs, through plantations and villages. A traditional Omani village en route has all the basic tourist facilities. Along the way you can find camels and immerse yourself in the culture of Oman. The waters are crystal clear and has a perfect temperature. On arrival there is a restaurant that I super recommend, is simple, but has a very affordable price and legitimate Arab food. Those who want to venture a little more can walk the trail at the top of the mountain that goes along the fault where the water flows. The view is spectacular!show original

After having meandered 20 minutes by car on the mountain roads, you arrive at a dead end for parking (which can quickly be filled... busy days on weekends and holidays so!). From this parking lot, big 5 minute walk will take you to the first plans of turquoise water. The landscapes are stunning and older you, better! There is even a small building used to drink and eat and clean toilets. If you get water, feel free! ;-) But do not stop there, keep the small "path" carved in the rocks up the wadi at cross-purposes. Along the way, several natural pools invite you to cool you down, and small fish that they contain will not hesitate to make a small free pedicure! Then continue your way upstream, and when you reach a large stone staircase (after 20 minutes), this is the end. At the top right of this staircase is the entrance of a cave (cave Makul) I invite you to discover but unafraid to dirty your clothes... A 5 big minute acrobatic descent (watch your head) will lead you to the source of the wadi at the heart of the mountain. With a little luck and attention can be seen a few bat hanging on the walls. However hot and humid air in this cave will discourage you from their home too long!show original
