Go off the beaten path and venture to Wadi Ghul - Oman's Grand Canyon, part of the Al Hajar mountain range, known for its remote, scenic hiking trails. You can drive up to the canyon in your personal vehicle, although a four-wheel drive is recommended, or go on an organized guided tour. Enjoy the sweeping views of the pristine mountainous landscape and the plunging gorge, take in the tranquil atmosphere, or attempt the “Balcony Walk” on foot, a thrilling hike on the edge of the towering cliffs. Work out when and for how long to visit Wadi Ghul - Oman's Grand Canyon and other Al Hamra attractions using our handy Al Hamra trip itinerary planner.

  • The Wadi Ghul is the Omani "Grand Canyon". It is possible to get there, but in my view the view of the canyon is much more beautiful from above, from the heights of Jabal Shams. Certainly the road (the way) to get there is not always obvious (not fully paved and quite difficult, you better have a 4 x 4), but once upstairs we forget everything else! Apart from a few little annoying tourists (both space is big), you'll meet perhaps goats, wild donkeys, lizards of all sizes, and a few big raptors. A must-see in Oman according to me!
