Misfat al Abreyeen, Al Hamra

(4.4/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web)
Wander the quaint alleyways of Misfat al Abreyeen, a historic village on the mountain slopes known for its antique mud-brick buildings nestled among groves of date palms. Mostly unchanged by Oman’s recent rapid development, the village preserved its ancient structures and rich heritage, in part due to the availability of water in the area, allowing villagers to grow date, lemon, and banana trees in the fertile soil. Stroll the narrow roads of the settlement and admire the traditional houses perched upon the rocky foothills, overlooking the picturesque date palm plantations below. • Here one suspects, as was built some decades ago and lived, like the social community was structured. You should take the time. Caution risk of accident in the ruins

  • A jewel tucked high up in the mountains surrounded by a Palm Grove terrace, where ancient mud houses are built on a solid foundation of rock and are crossed by the falaj which goes to irrigation and the cultivation of date palms. The road leading to the small village of Misfat (or Misfah, location names are often written in different ways) climbs mountain, sinuous after several bends you reach a comfortable parking and then continue on foot. Even if it's hot it's worth of cover at least part of the path marked by colored striped flags which leads inside the Palm Grove and then, following the course of falaj, enters between the rock faces in a scenery of rare beauty. Seems like a surreal landscape, a place where time has literally stopped, harsh in some ways, yet rich in vegetation and flowers that decorate the houses still inhabited. Within the village of falaj is reserved for women and is easily identifiable because it shielded by a number sign. Before leaving Misfat suggest a stop at Misfah Old House, a guesthouse situated in a magnificent location with a fantastic terrace overlooking the Palm Grove that smells of incense and cooled by the breeze in which indulge in a fresh fruit juice accompanied by inevitable sweet dates.

  • Gives a vision of the old villages and living arrangements we made a stop at the only Inn and BB of the place never received such a friendly welcome despite the difficulties caused by a check without a reservation for 11 people
