Misfat al Abreyeen, Al Hamra

4.4/5 based on 180+ reviews on the web
Wander the quaint alleyways of Misfat al Abreyeen, a historic village on the mountain slopes known for its antique mud-brick buildings nestled among groves of date palms. Mostly unchanged by Oman’s recent rapid development, the village preserved its ancient structures and rich heritage, in part due to the availability of water in the area, allowing villagers to grow date, lemon, and banana trees in the fertile soil. Stroll the narrow roads of the settlement and admire the traditional houses perched upon the rocky foothills, overlooking the picturesque date palm plantations below. • If you are passing to Nizwa, or even better, if you head of Nizwa to Jabal Shams, make a detour to the city of Misfat Al Abreyeen. 25 minutes drive, Nizwa and 1 hour from Jabal Shams village (almost) completely abandoned breathless you. I say almost because one building is still occupied, which has been renovated to House a museum. Walking around the city, crossing at the most a shepherd and his flock of goats, worth a visit!
