Stegastein, Western Norway

(4.8/5 based on 25+ reviews on the web)
Gaze upon one of the largest fjords on Norway's west coast from Stegastein. The minimalist structure was built in 2005 with a purpose to provide spectacular views without diminishing the beauty of the landscape. The structure allows you to walk above the tree line and experience the inlet from a different perspective. The lookout offers vistas of Nordic nature in its full glory, from the snowy mountains and green vegetation, to the meandering trails and waterfalls of the large fjord. Make Stegastein a part of your Flam vacation plans using our Flam itinerary builder.

  • Great view of the "World Heritage sites". A lot of people, a bit cramped to have parked the car. Steep and narrow roads, stunning scenery, but drive carefully!

  • Was mostly foggy, but the curved/drop-off feel of the viewing platform was interesting and fun. Bet it's a really nice view when the fog clears! :)
  • Great views of Aurlandsfjorden, with all the snow on the mountains. Best moment to go there is at the sunset.
  • Spectacular scenery from view point, it's absolutely beautiful. Use public transport (shutttle) from Flam Station, because road is very narrow, and you do not want miss any view from windows.
  • A fantastic lookout over the fjord! But there a a lot of people throughout the day, so you should choose the morning or evening hours if u want to be alone! When we arrived, there was just one toilet open :/ don't miss the lookout halfway to the top - there u'll have a view to Flam!
  • Incredible view and construction but can be quite busy when you arrive together with a big tourist bus.
