Nidarosdomen, Trondheim

4.6
Home of the grave of Norway's patron saint, Nidarosdomen stands as one of the country's most important religious sites and one of the largest medieval buildings in Scandinavia. Original construction started in 1070 over the resting place of Saint Olaf, and the church took on elements of both Gothic and Romanesque architecture over the centuries. Stop by the sizable cathedral to admire its dual bell towers and intricate facade, replete with arches, windows, and pillars. Explore the vaulted interior and its large stained-glass window section. Don't miss the crypt, which contains a multitude of medieval-era headstones found within the church. • The tour was informative but not entirely necessary. There were no hidden panels nor facts that couldn’t be gleaned elsewhere. Didn’t go up and didn’t go down. If you enter during a service you don’t ...  more »

  • Joined at a chapel to places that normally walk is not open to the public and it was a new experience. Olavskapellet and Mikaelskapellet were unavailable on the sides of the body and domens building to get here we had to walk the narrow stair ran with the torch in his hand. A very special experience, and all thanks to the informative guide.

  • Amazing place 💙 it has that very old times feeling and it’s so authentic and nice to be around. Nidaros cathedral is great example of romanesque and gothic style buildings. Last year there was 1000 years anniversary from when it was found! I really recommend to visit this place and take a walk around
  • Norway’s premier cathedral rises above everything in Trondheim. The massive spires are visible from much of the city and mark the former royal seat of power. The cathedral itself is impressive but the entrance fee is a bit of a drag. The surrounding area is great for a contemplative walk along the river. Inside, it’s a church, though admittedly a large one. It’s at last worth checking out the city’s prime landmark.
  • Initial view is ok when you approach from the centre but when you see the front, very impressive! I didn't go inside, object to paying to go inside religious buildings.
  • Absolutely beautiful,we had booked our visit thru Hurtigruten, and this was part of their sightseeing tour of Trondheim,so we only had about 40 minutes there but the guide was really good and he managed convey the history and the importance of the cathedral to Norway. Most definitely worth a visit.
  • Fantastic church. Beautiful in its details. A must see.
