Inspirock Rating:
4.1/5 based on 260+ reviews on the web
At Tromsø University Museum, discover the archeology, geology, and zoology of the region. The site also reveals church art and the traditional and modern life of Sami, an indigenous Finno-Ugric people. The well-displayed and informative exhibits educate visitors about the consequences of global warming and the role of fire. Check out the replica of a "terrella" or "northern lights machine"--an early invention which creates the sense of the aurora borealis on a miniature scale. Look for the traditional Sami sod house in the garden, and stop by the gift shop for a selection of books about the aurora borealis. The museum also houses a small display on the Vikings. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Tromso holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Tromsø University Museum and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • Since you buy the entrance should inform you that not all or rather almost any part of the Museum is translated into English. Although the entrance is not so expensive any savings you have considering that Norway is so expensive, thanks. This as close to the Center to walk, is not better to take truck.

  • Do not forget to walk past the building towards the sea to see the breathtaking view of snow clad Tromso.
  • Great museum with exhibits on northern lights, Sami people, Vikings, Stone Age.
  • Exhibition doesn't always follow any logic. Interesting though!
  • I really liked, a good place to learn a little more history and characteristics of this village and the Arctic region in general. It has a souvenir shop quite wide in the area of the entrance.
