Tromsø Museum, Tromso

(4.1/5 based on 320+ reviews on the web)
At Tromsø Museum, discover the archeology, geology, and zoology of the region. The site also reveals church art and the traditional and modern life of Sami, an indigenous Finno-Ugric people. The well-displayed and informative exhibits educate visitors about the consequences of global warming and the role of fire. Check out the replica of a "terrella" or "northern lights machine"--an early invention which creates the sense of the aurora borealis on a miniature scale. Look for the traditional Sami sod house in the garden, and stop by the gift shop for a selection of books about the aurora borealis. The museum also houses a small display on the Vikings. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Tromso holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Tromsø Museum and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • It had some interesting exhibits, but much seemed to be kid oriented. It was very hands on which could be fun, but much of it was damaged.  more »

  • Very interesting exhibits and images about the seeds and Northern lights are shown. Unfortunately, some interactive exhibits will no longer work. The cafeteria in its current state is a joke and can be closed.

  • There is a section about sami people wifi
  • Do not forget to walk past the building towards the sea to see the breathtaking view of snow clad Tromso.
  • Very interesting museum with the history of Tromsø and also about the history of Norway.
  • Great museum with exhibits on northern lights, Sami people, Vikings, Stone Age.
  • Exhibition doesn't always follow any logic. Interesting though!
