  • Most of us liked the practical demonstration of how the mining works-there is a lot of illustrative models and some of them are even interactive.

  • Unexpectedly awesome museum. This industry museum does a pretty decent job of explaining the history of oil in Norway without glorifying it. The exhibits are interesting, but not always explained well. The interactive portion of the museum is fantastic for younger children with lots to do and plenty of space to tear around. This is a great choice if you are stuck in Stavanger on a rainy day and can't bring your self to head into the mountains.
  • A great museum for any tourists coming through Stavanger. The exhibitions don't change very often however, making it quite pointless to go more than once (it is still similar to what it was 10 years ago).
  • Highly educative, for oil people or for the curious. Better to go there with someone who knows the oil business for a better insight of many of the displays. It shows oil history and genesis, different phases of exploitation of an oil field, from seismic to drilling, including operations and a fun mock-up for helicopter situations. It is also kids friendly, with many interactive stands and low-height displays for the small ones and an immersive cinema for storytelling. History of the oil industry in Stavanger region is widely narrated with help of newspaper articles drawn in a timeline with milestones. Highly recommend to plan for a full day immersion.
