Nigardsbreen Glacier, Sogndal Municipality

4.8
Walk the blue ice of Nigardsbreen Glacier, one of the most accessible glaciers in Norway and part of a national park. The walk with a proper guide provides an opportunity to step inside the glacier, entering into its crater through a small cave. Across the glacier lies a glacial lake and, further down, the river delta. Bring good shoes, warm clothes, sunglasses, sunscreen, and plenty of water. • We’ve booked online this short hike on the Nigarsbreen glacier in January and some options ( hours ) are unavailable at that time. Most important is wear alpine boot, thermal coat and gloves. Moreover...  more »
  • Lovely and charming place. The entrance fee, so in such beautiful circumstances of nature would be a sin. Trzykilometrowy walk around the asphalt takes 45 minutes one way. On site or you can go ahead more difficult path and after another hour to reach the glacier. Another option is shizu Kana private beach boat-you get the time, you lose the NOKach. If you are staying at a nearby campsite, you can go there in summer, late in the evening even after 20:00-is empty and quiet-pure nature.

  • By Gaupne drives still well 30 km on mostly well-developed roads to the visitor center, then there are only a few km toll road to the parking lot. 50 NOK are toll but OK - hiking along the toll road seems little interesting and also the parking lot is then free of charge. The crossing of the glacier lake (back and forth 60 NOK for adults) is not strictly necessary, you can go on foot - and you should be aware that the small boats take a only a part of the way. From the pier, we continue over hill and Dale (caution: slippery when wet!)-if one has booked a guided tour, you must but not walk up to the glacier tongue, to enjoy a good view of the glacier.

  • Very beautiful place. A sight to behold on your travels in Norway.
  • Natural glacier, adventure if you have proper shoes clothes and gears, you can walk inside. For water taxi payment in cash only.
  • Absolutely stunning view.
  • Amazing
  • Glaciers are a constant in Norway and if you find yourself in the area of the fjords is required to visit at least one, because they are relatively easy to reach and in the case of the Nigardsbreen even to touch and climb. This glacier, from the intense blue color depending on how it is affected by the Sun's rays is one of the easiest to reach: you are coming by car to the parking lot on beautiful glacial Lake, after paying 5 euros. An easy hike (there is also a boat if any man will do before) allows you to get to the base of the glacier which closely appears really huge and seeing the Ice Cave from which the water comes out of the merger, which creates a rushing River and gives rise to the great Lake in Turkish though. Until the end of August you can make a guided hike on the glacier, either by an hour to 5 hours for families, that of experts. The place is magical, surrounded by beautiful mountains. Not to be missed!
