Roros Church, Roros

(4.2/5 based on 130+ reviews on the web)
Røros Church is a parish church in the municipality of Røros in Sør-Trøndelag county, Norway. The church is located in the mining town of Røros. Røros Church is Norway's fifth largest church, and has about 1600 seats. It is also ranked by Riksantikvaren as one of the ten most important churches in Norway. The church is part of the Røros parish in the Gauldal deanery in the Diocese of Nidaros. The church was consecrated on 15 August 1784 by Bishop Marcus Fredrik Bang. Røros Copper Works paid for the building of the stone church, and the symbol of the Copper Works was put on all sides of the tower wall. There is a sign over the entrance to the church that says "Til Guds Ære og Bergstadens Ziir" which means "to God's Glory and Bergstaden's beauty." Bergstaden means "the mining town", and this is why the church is sometimes referred to as "Bergstadens Ziir".

  • Spent a weekend in Røros and went by the Church. It is located very centrally located in the city centre and you can see it from everywhere really. A bit in the entrance fee, but understand the it. The Church was beautiful, a lot of history here, highly recommended!

  • I guess it's few buildings in Røros is then photographed as the Church. But most of the pictures focus mostly on the church spire. Therefore, I was really surprised at how great the Church is. We were fortunate enough to come while it was church service and had seen the inside of the Church. It was quite an experience. Absolutely fantastic, must be experienced!
