Roros Church, Roros

(4.2/5 based on 130+ reviews on the web)
Røros Church is a parish church in the municipality of Røros in Sør-Trøndelag county, Norway. The church is located in the mining town of Røros. Røros Church is Norway's fifth largest church, and has about 1600 seats. It is also ranked by Riksantikvaren as one of the ten most important churches in Norway. The church is part of the Røros parish in the Gauldal deanery in the Diocese of Nidaros. The church was consecrated on 15 August 1784 by Bishop Marcus Fredrik Bang. Røros Copper Works paid for the building of the stone church, and the symbol of the Copper Works was put on all sides of the tower wall. There is a sign over the entrance to the church that says "Til Guds Ære og Bergstadens Ziir" which means "to God's Glory and Bergstaden's beauty." Bergstaden means "the mining town", and this is why the church is sometimes referred to as "Bergstadens Ziir".

  • Was a member of Rock City hiking and had with a guid that really made the visit interesting. Got to know the history of the church grounds for the design and Interior. Are you there without you must remember to guid look at the painting behind the altar. The painting was donated to the Church an enkefruen but the Church would not have that. A compromise was to hang it up there the Congregation could not see it

  • Was on berg city hiking and a short trip to the Church. It was korøving there, so it was hard to get anything much history about the Church and it was a bit random what the guide told me. But a very nice and stately building, fun to have seen it!
