She Lies, Oslo

#105 of 467 in Things to do in Oslo
Admire the public sculpture of She Lies while visiting the harbor in Oslo. Created by Italian artist Monica Bonvinci in 2007, the figure sits on a floating platform in the fjord, several feet above the surface. As a recreation of the painting "Sea of Ice," the sculpture captures the look and feel of a jagged iceberg sitting in the fjord. When viewing the sculpture, you'll notice the water reflecting off the sculpture's glass panels. Get the best views of the landmark from the roof of the opera house. It's impressive any time of day, but sunset here yields the best photo ops. Make She Lies a centerpiece of your Oslo vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Oslo trip itinerary site .

  • This beautiful sculpture which reproduces an iceberg, I found it very much in keeping with the context. You can see from the roof of the Norvegian ballet and opera.

  • Morning 5:00 went out for a walk. Outside again the Sun was not out to people, went around the harbour. It is this structure of which into the waters of the harbor where I'm very noticeable object.

  • Sculpture originale dans le port d'Oslo: She Lies (Norwegian: hun ligger) is a public sculpture by Monica Bonvicini made of stainless steel and glass panels measuring approximately 12 metres (39 ft) by 17 metres (56 ft) by 16 metres (52 ft) next to the Oslo Opera House, in Norway.
  • Interesting to see
  • Construction in the port leaving you to imagine what you want, but still looks like an iceberg strayed into the port of Oslo

  • A short walk from the Opera House sails on the water surface of art She Lies (the author is Monica Bonvicini). Sculpture of steel and glass, seated on a concrete platform, moving with the tides. Art has no limits, however, it struck me personally this floating pile of ice easily tacky.

Where to stay in Oslo

A majority of Oslo's hotels and smaller accommodations cluster along Karl Johans Gate, the city's main drag connecting many of its downtown attractions. If you want something a bit more colorful than the average hotel, consider one of the many bed and breakfasts that have been cropping up in recent years. To escape the crowded streets, but still be walking distance from major sights, stay in the Frogner or Majorstuen neighborhoods near the royal palace. As you can probably guess, lodging is quite expensive in this European capital.
