Oslo Cathedral (Oslo Domkirke), Oslo
(3.6/5 based on 460+ reviews on the web)
Oslo Cathedral (Oslo Domkirke) provides a serene place where you can take part in a service and light a candle. It also hosts public celebrations and royal events. The 17th-century Baroque church was restored to its original interior in 1950, on the ninth centennial of Oslo. See the authentic altarpiece with the painting of the Last Supper, the pulpit, and the christening font carved with acanthus leaves. During the restoration, the floor was covered with marble stones and brickwork, and all furnishings were refurbished. Be sure to look up and view the ceiling paintings, works by a 20th-century Norwegian artist that depict different scenes from the life of Jesus Christ. • Happened to walk in while they were tuning the piano (it was stated as organ tuning but nah, it's just the grand piano). The interior of the cathedral is simply splendid and very serene. Many tourists...  more »

  • The Cathedral dates back to the late 1600 's and the Norwegian Royal family and the Norwegian Government use for events such as weddings and funerals. Its baroque interior is beautiful in every detail, the pulpit, the altar, organ with acanthus carvings to large ceiling frescoes.

  • not say its ugly.. but not ultimate beautiful too... I will say a simple cozy cathedral. Far away from impressive.
  • It´s a not a very impressive cathedral, but it´s recommended to visit.
  • nice cathedral. Within the ancient frescoes painted over. Pity. Because I think, the new ones do not quite match the building's look.
  • All I wanted to say that this building has great placing and surroundings. Nothing special inside or outside though.
  • Not that much beautiful but worth to see
