Oslo Cathedral (Oslo Domkirke) provides a serene place where you can take part in a service and light a candle. It also hosts public celebrations and royal events. The 17th-century Baroque church was restored to its original interior in 1950, on the ninth centennial of Oslo. See the authentic altarpiece with the painting of the Last Supper, the pulpit, and the christening font carved with acanthus leaves. During the restoration, the floor was covered with marble stones and brickwork, and all furnishings were refurbished. Be sure to look up and view the ceiling paintings, works by a 20th-century Norwegian artist that depict different scenes from the life of Jesus Christ.
