  • While Norway was part of Sweden the Swedish king Oscar II wanted to build a summercastle for him and his Queen, and so he did. This was about 185. And the Castle looks romantic Close to the Fjord. Rea...  more »
  • Had finally visited this secluded gem. The Park around is open to all, only comes into the castle together with the guide. A very knowledgeable guide showed us around. The trip took about 50 minutes and we got to hear the history of the Castle and it was built in contemporary history, architecture and art as well as from the restoration. Interesting for both adults and children. A trip here is recommended.

  • Summer of the Royal Castle built in the middle of the 18th century, it reproduces the architectural and ornamental patterns of the middle ages and the Gothic style... and the "artificial" side is visible. Inside, sum parts all sober enough and unattractive. The guided tour (in Norwegian - flyer in English available) is required to return; but I don't think this is an essential visit. The Park is quite nice, with a beautiful view of the harbour. 10 minutes walk from the Folk Museum.

  • The only drawback of this tour is that it's all in Norwegian.
  • Tiny small Fairy Tale Castle. Stunningdeco painting som and deco inside and a beautiful park.
  • Beautifull
  • The castle was locked down but the gardens were nice.
  • Nice place

Where to stay in Oslo

A majority of Oslo's hotels and smaller accommodations cluster along Karl Johans Gate, the city's main drag connecting many of its downtown attractions. If you want something a bit more colorful than the average hotel, consider one of the many bed and breakfasts that have been cropping up in recent years. To escape the crowded streets, but still be walking distance from major sights, stay in the Frogner or Majorstuen neighborhoods near the royal palace. As you can probably guess, lodging is quite expensive in this European capital.
