  • We had a lovely afternoon at this gallery. It's 200k to get in but this is not a bother for what you get out of it. We had a lovely lunch in their cafe (scones were delicious, as was the coffee... not...  more »
  • Must-see in Oslo! The rooms are very spacious, and very good collection of pictures, of all ages. Preferred

  • The Museum is not very large, twenty-something halls, but it and plus-tired. Many paintings by famous artists. Some fabric simply charmed: one as a photograph, on another perfect discharged senile feet, the third is lit from the inside out! Liked the antique sculptures, ancient Russian icons are. Were Thursday, visited for free, which is very nice.

  • Had a really great time walking around the gallery. Lots of great works to see. They have a room with about 12-15 of Munch's works. Easy to walk the whole gallery in about 3 hours. Recommend paying for the audio tour as it has some great info about some of the works. I wish they would add a few more audio captions to the list. Recommend adding the National Gallery to your list of stops if you are in Oslo for a few days.
  • Compact collection in the historical building. Important works of northern romanticism and expressionism. In a few years the museum collection will be transferred to its new location; so last chances for seeing them in its old home.
  • A great variety of paintings from different art waves in Norway. The famous "scream" painting by Munch. Also free entry on Thursdays!
  • Very well endowed gallery. Truly a gem in Norway's crown. Could spend an afternoon in there!
  • Excellent gallery. The upper level is presented in chronological order with each room representing a time period and/or type of art making a visit easily accessible. Each room has a short description of the art pieces. It's sufficient information without overwhelming visitors with text on the art pieces. I did like that the art pieces went back to Greek/Roman sculptures and eventually lead to the famous Edward Munch paintings and then continued onwards.
