  • Take bus 54, tram or local train to Kjelsås. There you will find easily to a fabulous trip way along the river Akerselva. It starts all the way up at the Lake Maridalsvannet and you can go all the way down to the Bjørvika. The River meanders down towards the fjord through the many fine sites, here is the forest, pleasant bathing areas, small waterfalls, benches to sit on, lawns to sunbathe on etc. Closer to the city you will also find small cafes and restaurants when you feel the need for a little to drink or eat. You go through the old industrial area in Nydalen is now becoming a popular live and growth area. The old workshops and industrial buildings have been refurbished and creates a nice atmosphere among the new, modern building. The Aker River was once the largest all industry Oslo's for that work place to many of the city's inhabitants. Today is emerging as a gem, a source of relaxation, enjoyment and outdoor recreation. Take the trip on a sunny day and enjoy this very special outing as the city offers free of charge.

  • Beautiful park in the modern area of Oslo. Feel lucky residents that live in the city and sort of like in the countryside. Green Isles everywhere, trees already elderly, thick forest. A lot of green fields, among them benches, several sculptures, convenient paths for walking. There are picnic areas.

Where to stay in Oslo

A majority of Oslo's hotels and smaller accommodations cluster along Karl Johans Gate, the city's main drag connecting many of its downtown attractions. If you want something a bit more colorful than the average hotel, consider one of the many bed and breakfasts that have been cropping up in recent years. To escape the crowded streets, but still be walking distance from major sights, stay in the Frogner or Majorstuen neighborhoods near the royal palace. As you can probably guess, lodging is quite expensive in this European capital.
