Aker Brygge, Oslo
(4.3/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
Stretching along one of the arms of the Oslo Fjord in the location of a former shipyard, Aker Brygge creates a melting pot where business people, artists, musicians, and celebrities meet and mingle. Several workshop halls of the 19th-century shipyard have been turned into shopping areas with restaurants, art galleries, and a cinema, creating a city-within-a-city. Shop, have a drink, or taste some fresh seafood at the restaurants on the boats by the dock. A walk along the waterfront, with its mixture of old buildings and modern architecture, gives a general view into the history of Norwegian shipbuilding. Visit one of the small harbors, hop on a boat, and take a ride to one of the nearby islands. The area hosts several festivals.
