  • After greeting the Hurtigruten, we headed by bus to the Snow Hotel, about 15/20 minutes from the port of Kirkenes. It was a wonderful morning, this excursion was among the best we had on the trip. To begin with, I must say that the Snow Hotel you can perform various activities: husky sledding, snowmobiling, fishing for crab, walk in the snow, the Snow Hotel, aurora hunt and much more ... we stayed on a visit to the Snow Hotel for the morning and Hunt at dawn for the evening. During the bus journey the guide told a brief history of Kirkenes. Once arrived at the Snow Hotel, the Guide took us to see the reindeer, we could stroke her and give them to eat. Before entering the Snow Hotel we did visit the area where are located the Huskies with their kennels. Even here the guide was very friendly, she told us how they are trained Huskies, what they eat, etc. A stone's throw from the husky kennels is the Snow Hotel, located in front of an igloo where you can freely enter. The Snow Hotel inside is beautiful, at the entrance there are various ice statues depicting dogs, sleds and people, even the furniture is made of ice (armchairs and counter). We are immediately served a liquor made from raspberries, yummy (Rudolph's revenge). After the Atrium, the visit continues to the rooms: they are all different from one another, each has its own sculpture. You can also sleep, but the guide said that few manage to the cold. Every year the hotel is rebuilt from scratch in the autumn, when it's getting cold. After a visit to the Snow Hotel the excursion continues at a local bar where you can taste the sausage of venison with bearberry and raspberry juice. After the tasting we will have a free walk behind the hotel, the scenery is wonderful: an endless expanse of snow in front of a frozen fjord, close to the border with Russia. Walking distance there is a log cabin where it is cooked King crab: we passed even as the fishermen were taking the crab cooked in the restaurant at the Snow Hotel, we were asked if we wanted to taste it and they gave us a free chela, yummy! In return towards Kirkenes we took a scenic ride by bus, we made a stop at a point where you could see all the land from above. Beautiful. The girl who escorted us we liked, Nice. Over here everything beautifully, now begins the unfortunate part of the story. For the evening we had booked the excursion bus Aurora Hunt, I must say that this was quite disappointing. We took the bus from the base of the Snow Hotel, the weather was iffy (snowy up a few minutes before departure), we had 40 minutes to find a spot with good view. The guy who escorted us wasn't very sympathetic, while traveling explained the usual things about aurora. The northern lights have appeared for a few minutes, then the sky is covered further. It's a shame because that night the aurora was very intense 4 KP index, so ... it was enough to make a few dozen km closer to Finland for being able to admire in all its glory ... very disappointing outing, it was better not to have it either. Summary: the Snow is really interesting and especially, is worth a visit, but don't expect anything from the excursion to the aurora, is too dismissive.

  • Loved this place! We went on a King Crab Fishing Excursion at this place and it was so much fun! Our guide, Gryl, was exceptionally helpful and friendly. She even showed us how to cook the King Crabs and we ended the day off with a delicious King Crab dinner. Awesome!
  • Beautiful hotel. I were here in the summer but I would expect it to be incredible beautiful in the wintertime when you have a full snow-covered landscape.
  • Something different! Reindeer, huskies and snow.
  • One of the must visits in Kirkenes! This is a must do if you visit Kirkenes during the winter time. The Snowhotel is made of 15 tonnes of ice and decorated by Chinese ice specialists. It’s hard to describe how beautiful the Ice-bar and rooms are so take a look at my attached photos! Ice-bar serves ice cold Vodka in glasses made of ice! After visiting the Ice-bare we had an amazing dinner in the newly renovated restaurant “Bingen”. The food & service provided was excellent! I highly recommend to stay one night in the Snowhotel (igloo rooms) if you can afford it! Regards Svein-Magne Tunli from Bergen, Norway.
  • We were there mid December 2014 and did king crab fishing, snow mobiles and a tour of the snow hotel with dinner wish we had of done the dog sledding as well. Fantastic friendly staff. Highly recommended ☺
