  • Have been going to Karmoy for years to see family and took our first visit here this summer. The entrance and first part of the path was not so inviting or well marked but once we got into it I was im...  more »
  • I have family on Karmøy and have been to the Haugaland Zoo three times. It isn't someplace I would have normally considered going out of my way to see, but if you are in the area and have young children with you, it is a very nicely landscaped park. It really is more of a park than a zoo. A park with Peacock's and an odd assortment of other not-particularly-exotic animals (like alpacas and zebu). Exotic two Karmøy, certainly, but only a zoologist can really appreciate the difference between a cow and a zebu if you ask me! But there are some entertaining parrots, and the meerkats run freely. A few goats for petting, some snakes and turtles. It falls short on signposting (there is none), so even during our third visit in wandered around wondering if I had seen everything or if I was on the right path to get to the exit. They could do with some printed maps or at least some arrows pointing the way around. A few of the enclosures had some wikipedia-ish information tacked on them (in Norwegian), but I suppose they know their audience is mostly 6 year olds who don't care for facts. Where the place shines is in it's landscaping which makes the whole visit really worth the entrance fee (not cheap, but then, what is?). There are maybe a half dozen separate picnic areas, secluded with benches, where if you bring a snack you'll feel pleasantly isolated from the world and your family can watch the swans and peacocks as if you owned the place. A small cafe sells coffee and ice cream. The toilets are exceptionally well maintained and clean. No gift shop means no unnecessary commercialism, stark contrast to the Aquarium in Bergen where you can't get in or out without walking through a minefield of whiny kids. So if you are looking for an outdoor activity with young kids on a nice day, the Haugaland Zoo is a great choice for Northern Karmøy. Maybe just don't tell your kids it's a "zoo" so they don't get their hopes up for the giraffes and elephants. :) Bring some snacks and plan on admiring the gardens as much as the animals!

  • Picturesque park that really deserve to get more support by the municipality/State to evolve further. Nice people working there and a lot of exciting for the kids to look at the animals. Recommend to visit this great Zoo

  • Amazing and cozy zoo with a pretty good selection of animals. Me and my family had a great time here and I would definitely recommend it to everyone!
  • Very small zoo with only small variety of animals. Main atraction is a leopard. 200 NKO is way too much money.
  • Nice and cozy park with an ok selection of animals.
  • Absolutely amazing what one has been given to the torvastad, Aksdal. Recommended to take the kids. Affordable g entertainment for the whole family. But, the Park seems increasingly a bit half-baked. A lot of empty cages and some animals get a barely seen. However, a great Park.
